1. Mary Ann Bash from Each One Teach One will demonstrate her techniques for using books to increase students’ vocabulary.

2. Learn how to draw with students to increase their observational skills and plant knowledge.

Cooking in the School
Plant Swap

6:30 – 8:30 pm at R.A.F.T. (2875 Blake St. Denver)

Bring your excess edible perennials and swap with others (raspberries, strawberries, Jerusalem artichokes, etc)

Learn the basics of conducting easy and fun cooking classes with your students. Includes cooking demonstrations for spring and summer.

Topics covered include:

1. Designing student-driven classes
2. Organizing to take out the stress
3. Dealing with safety and administration
4. Equipment and Supplies

Visit the Slow Food Denver booth in Mitchell Hall at the Denver Botanic Gardens on October 24. We will have our booth staffed from 10-4.

Denver Botanic Gardens, Denver Urban Gardens, and Denver Sustainable Food Policy Council are hosting a marquee Food Day celebration that will focus on reducing obesity and diet-related diseases by promoting safe, healthy foods; supporting local agriculture and sustainable farming; and expanding access to real food to alleviate hunger. Admission is FREE! No need to register in advance—just stop by anytime, and stay as long as you like. Our hope is that this event will bring awareness to the real food movement and start a Food Day tradition that will flourish for many years to come.

The Conference Events will all be held in Gates Hall:

Grantwriting Workshop Oct 11

This workshop is to help schools and parent groups at schools to fill out the Whole Kids Foundation garden grant application.

If you are interested in applying for the Whole Foods Foundation garden grant of $2,000, you will find the details here: http://www.wholekidsfoundation.org/gardengrants-application.php.

Before you come to the workshop, look over the application and fill out as much as you can. Include a detailed estimated budget. Here is the application: http://www.gardengrantapplication.org/wkf-public/. You can also create your account and get a password.

Then, we will answer all your questions and show you how to do an effective grant application. Although each school will fill out a separate grant, we can send them in all together if they are completed.

Simple food processing techniques including:

Home made noodles-Using rolling pins
Tomato Sauce-Using food mills and food strainers
Red chili sauce-Food mills and strainers
Thai curry paste-mortar and pestles

All of these dishes are fun and simple to make! They can be used with whatever vegetables you have ready to harvest.
